I have been gluten free for over 10 years so having limited options at certain restaurants is very normal for me. We cook at home for every meal 6 days a week and get take out from one of our 2 favorite restaurants for dinner every Friday. But when we travel I make sure to do EXTENSIVE research on the local restaurants and grocery store options. We have ended up in some very remote and tiny towns with very few options when we are on the way to a National Park.
We have friends in Bend, OR and like to make our visits into a longer vacation each time we go. The last time we went out, we decided to fly in and out of Seattle so we could add Mount Rainier National Park on the way back. After an INCREDIBLE trip that included our friends wedding, lots of hiking, a day trip to Crater Lake and a bucket list experience at Mount Rainier, we spent our last day in Seattle.
Unlike most places we stay, Seattle had an overwhelming amount of restaurants with tons of gluten free options. I have an entire list on my notes app that I hope to get to whenever we go back to the area. We didn’t have a lot of time to explore the city so we decided to get lunch at one of the places on my list that was close to where we stayed, Ghost Fish Brewery.
Now, we don’t drink so a brewery seems like a very strange place for us to choose, BUT this is not your regular brewery. This is a 100% Gluten free Taproom and Gastropub and I was in HEAVEN. We normally eat very healthy, but on vacation I definitely relax and deviate from my normal routine (besides things that negatively affect my health like gluten and most dairy).
Since the menu is fully gluten free I had the hardest time deciding on what to order, but finally settled on a Blackened Salmon BLT with fries and a local Kombucha they had on Tap. We also got onion rings because I have NEVER seen a gluten free option for traditional bar food. Billy got a smash burger that was one of their specials. Every thing was huge and absolutely delicious. If you are gluten free you know how hard it is to find a good gluten free bun, and these were incredible. They didn’t crumble or fall apart and I’m telling you, these sandwiches were massive. Mine had an entire salmon filet on it.
We had plans to go to this beautiful Mexican restaurant for dinner, but we were still SO full from lunch that we ended up getting ice cream for dinner and Frankie and Joes. Honestly, the perfect gluten and dairy free day of eating.
